About Beacon Arcade
Beacon Arcade was founded with a single purpose: to make professional-grade night navigation training accessible to every mariner, sailing student, and maritime club — regardless of where they are in the world.
Our Mission
Mastering lighthouse signal recognition is one of the most critical skills in maritime navigation. Yet for decades, meaningful practice has been confined to the water at night — expensive, weather-dependent, and logistically difficult. We set out to change that.
Our mission is to deliver a compact, realistic lighthouse simulator that brings authentic night navigation training into any environment: a classroom, a sailing club, a home study, or a boat at anchor. We believe that better-trained mariners make safer seas.
Why We Built It
The idea for Beacon Arcade grew out of a frustration familiar to anyone who has taken a maritime navigation course. Students spend hours studying light characteristics on paper — fixed, flashing, isophase, occulting — but rarely get the chance to see and internalize them in realistic conditions before their first night passage.
We wanted a training tool that a sailing instructor could place on a table, a student could hold in their hands, and a navigator could run through drills with at any hour. The result is the Beacon Arcade marine navigation device: a self-contained lighthouse simulator with 27 authentic light patterns, a built-in WiFi hotspot, and a browser-based control interface that requires no apps and no internet connection.
Commitment to Realism
Every light characteristic in the Beacon Arcade has been implemented to match the international standards used in real nautical charts and official maritime publications. From the precise timing of a flashing sequence to the sector angles of a directional lighthouse, accuracy is non-negotiable.
The optional rotation mode simulates the sweeping beam of a rotating lighthouse, giving students the closest possible approximation of what they will encounter on the water. Our nautical training system is designed not as a toy, but as a serious educational instrument for the maritime community.
Educational Purpose
Beacon Arcade is used by individual sailors preparing for their first night passage, instructors teaching navigation courses at sailing schools, and boat clubs running group training sessions. The built-in training game allows students to test their recognition skills interactively, receiving immediate feedback as they work through the full range of lighthouse types.
We also support organisations such as scout groups and youth sailing programs, with a dedicated Scout Edition through which a portion of every sale is donated to support young mariners in developing their seamanship skills.
Our Commitment
We are committed to continuously improving the Beacon Arcade as a maritime training tool. That means listening to feedback from sailing instructors, maritime clubs, and everyday users to ensure the device remains the most practical and realistic lighthouse simulator available for independent training.
Whether you are a weekend sailor working toward your offshore certificate or a professional maritime instructor looking for a reliable classroom aid, Beacon Arcade is built for you.
